There are common signs that are symptomatic of genital herpes. At the first onset of the disease, the afflicted will experience what’s typically the most painful phase of genital herpes. The experience during future onsets of the disease is less severe.
Symptoms include muscle aches, headaches, painful urination or vaginal discharge, fever, and swollen and tender lymph nodes. These are on top of visible clusters of small ulcers or blisters in and around the genitals of the person. These common signs will usually last for up to a month.
What to do when signs of genital herpes are seen
When you find some blisters or small ulcer clusters in/or around your genitals and feel any of the above symptoms, it is best to get a check with your doctor first. Do not self-medicate. Sometimes, no visible symptoms (small ulcers) become apparent even when one’s afflicted with genital herpes. It is best to go see your doctor if you experience painful urination or vaginal discharge, accompanied by the other physical symptoms of the disease.
Medications for genital herpes
There is currently no cure to genital herpes. What the afflicted can do is take several drug options that inhibit the symptoms and minimizes the physical discomforts that come with the disease. Examples of these drugs include Valacyclovir, Famciclovir, and Acyclovir.
